Evolvica is a hypertext-based tutorial about Evolutionary Computation and is currently being developed at the Dept. of Computer Science 2, Programming Languages at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg.
Mainly relying on Mathematica's programming environment and Java, Evolvica comprises a collection of HTML documents in combination with Mathematica notebooks (versions 3.0 and 2.x) and Java applets.
Evolvica is used in the classroom, in seminars, courses, and lectures, to demonstrate basic principles of evolutionary computation and optimization techniques as well as algorithmic schemes gleaned from nature. Animations, hyperlinked tutorial documents, applets, and notebooks with more detailed course material help to present background ideas and algorithms in a vivid and interactive way.

The course pages are periodically updated, and we wish to include more material on the following related topics in the context of "Algorithms gleaned from Nature":
  • Decentralized evolutionary computing
  • Ant colony optimization
  • Ecosystem modeling and simulation
  • Cellular programming and evolution of cellular automata
