This solves the equation of motion of a spring of mass m/unit length, fixed at one end and containing a mass M at its free end. The mass M is initially at rest and is displaced by an amount U0 such that the spring is in tension. The spring has spring constant k, natural length L. Because the spring has mass, this system is considerably more complicated than the usual mass - spring system of high school physics. However, Mathematica solves the problem rather easily.
