I. Gumowski and C. Mira, centre de recherche CERN de Genève, Suisse, have found strange attractors that possess marine life forms. They have derived a system of equations to simulate the movement of particles in a few meters long cylindrical accelerator. The notebook provides this system of equations and several plots of Gumowski-Mira strange attractors. This computation was the part of a junior level project performed by Asma Hélaoui and Asma Chaghal under the direction of Dr. Housam Binous at the National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology at Tunis, Tunisia. The project was an introduction to nonlinear dynamics computations with Mathematica where the students learned about models such as the Lorenz equations and the Oregonator. Plotting Gumowski-Mira strange attractors was the students recreation from the other more challenging mathematical concepts of nonlinear dynamics such as chaos and limit cycles.
