This problem was presented in the excellent book by W. F. Ramirez, Computational Methods for Process Simulation, Second Edition, 1997, Butterworth Heinemann, Oxford. Here, we extend the authors work by considering second order Galerkin and Collocation methods to solve a one-dimensional heat conduction problem. The heat conductivity is considered as a linear function of temperature. Numerical solutions are compared to the exact solution. We find perfect agreement between the three methods.
