The Matlab Application Program Interface specification changed
between Matlab version 4.0 and Matlab version 5.1 so that 
the original version of MaMa (Matlab in Mathematica) needs to
be patched. There have been some minor changes to Mathematica's
"mathlab.h" file as well.

First, make sure that your installation has the correct 
"mathlink.h" file.  The latest version is available from 

 http://www.wolfram.com/support/MathLink/Updates/mathlink.h.html

The following procedure assumes that the patch files are in
your MaMa directory containing the files MaMa.c and Makefile in
their original unmodified form.

(1) apply patches: 
	patch <Makefile.patch
        patch <MaMa.c.patch
        patch <MaMa.m.patch

(2) modify Makefile for your installation as needed

(3) make

then follow the original MaMa instructions. 

The patch MaMa.m.patch improves passing of matrices to
Matlab.  Complex numerical matrices can now be passed,
while non-numerical matrices are ignored.

The above patches were tested under Solaris (SunOS 5.5.1).
