Three equilibrium reactions are taking place simultaneously to produce SynGas using coal and steam. We start by plotting the equilibrium constant versus temperature assuming that the standard state heat of reaction is independent of temperature. We then solve a system of three algebraic equations subject to constraints using the built-in function of Mathematica: Minimize. Finally, we plot the molar extents of reactions for reaction 1 through 3 and the equilibrium mole fractions for the coal-steam reactions. Results obtained in the present notebook are close to the ones given in the excellent book by S. I. Sandler, Chemical and Engineering Thermodynamics, 3rd Edition, Wiley 1999.
