The notebook computes the first and second derivative matrices using shifted Legendre polynomials (Finlayson, The method of Weighted Residuals and Variational Principles, Academic Press, 1972). The second derivative matrix is then used to solve the unsteady heat conduction in a rod problem (Ramirez, Computational Methods for Process Simulation, 2nd Edition, Butterworth-Heinemann,1997). Finally, the temperature profile is compared to the solution of the diffusion equation using NDSolve.
