The Compound Miters notebook calculates everything you ever want to know about cutting compound angles for arbitrary configurations of joints including joinery of unequal thicknesses of boards. Compound angles are frequently the bane of such craftsmen. Examples are installation of crown molding at corners other than 90 degrees, constructing skylights at the junction of pitched roofs, and the design of flower pots with tapered sides. Given the results of the calculations, the next problem is sufficiently precise execution. Ordinary shop equipment is not designed for the level of precision sometimes required to produce acceptably tight joints.
