We investigate the batch rectification of a mixture of four hydrocarbons (pentane, hexane, heptane and octane). Constant molar overflow is assumed to derive the operating line and the reflux ratio is equal to 5. Overall and components Quasi-Steady-State Material Balances, described by Doherty and Malone in their book Conceptual Design of Distillation Systems, is used to find the compositions and temperatures of the still and distillate. The composition profile shows that the light components exit the column first then the heavier components exit the column. The temperature profile shows four plateau corresponding to the four products leaving the column with high purity.
