The two notebooks compute the number of equilibrium stages using the Hunter and Nash graphical method and the McCabe and Thiele diagram of two liquid liquid extraction problems. In the first problem, only one feed of acetic acid (35 wt %) in water which flow rate = 1000 kg/hr is extracted using a solvent consisting of pure isopropyl ether which flow rate = 1475 kg/h. The exiting raffinate stream specification is 10 wt % acetic acid. The solution to this first problem is found in the notebook LL-extraction7.nb . In the second problem, two feeds are used. The first feed which flow rate is 600 Kg/hr consists of acetic acid (35 wt %) in water. The second feed which flow rate is 400 Kg/hr is also a mixture of acetic acid (20 wt %) and water (80 wt %). Optimum feed location for the second feed is computed as well as the number of equilibrium stages needed to achieve an outlet raffinate with 10 % wt acetic acid. The solution to this problem is found in TwoFeedExtractor.nb .
