 Cascadeprocessesgenericallyleadtomultifractalfieldsandhavebeenusedforsimulatingturbulent systems–includingclouds,rain,temperature,passivescalarsandthewind–aswellasforsolidearth fields, suchasrockdensity,magnetizationandtopography.Inspiteoftheirimportance,most applicationsuseprimitivediscretescaleratioprocesses,whichsingularizescaleswhichareinteger powersofintegers.Realisticsimulationsarecontinuousinscale,butsufferfromstrong‘‘finitesize effects’’i.e.deviationsfrompurepowerlawscaling,whichcantakesurprisinglylargerangesofscaleto disappear.Inthistwopartseries,wequantifyandshowtheoriginoftheproblemandquantifyits magnitude(partI),whileinpartIIweshowhowtolargelyovercomeitandgivea Mathematica code for the correspondingsimulationsforcausalandacausalspace-timesimulations.
