Description

Genealogical research is a fascinating subject that brings together diverse disciplines, offers personal satisfaction to the hobbyist, and often times leads to many surprises. No single genealogy software package can satisfy every user’s needs, so the Wolfram Language offers one the opportunity to extend the capabilities of that package. We have developed functions in the Wolfram Language that allow the user to read and write genealogical data in GEDCOM format, to compute the family relationship between any pair of individuals in a family tree (e.g., third cousin twice removed), compute and draw pedigrees for an individual (both ancestors and descendants), compute genealogical distance (consanguinity), draw time-lines for individuals, map information about individuals and families using Geo Graphics, and perform operations on family trees not generally available in genealogical packages.
