In this talk, I’ll outline MathematElection, my computational politics blog devoted to exploratory data analysis and lighthearted predictions of the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election. Every day since July, my program has collected the number of Facebook “Likes” for each presidential candidate and uploaded the data to a Databin hosted on the Wolfram Data Drop. This has produced an archive of public opinion for tracking each candidate’s Facebook popularity over time. Using interactive visualizations of the data with Mathematica, I have continued to investigate trends in the data and generate graphics for the blog. In my presentation, I will review some of the coding concepts used and provide access to the data so you can go exploring … and maybe even become the next Nate Silver!
