Mathematica is, in part, a very general system for numerical computation. Functionality for numerical computation range from simple arithmetic to sophisticated optimization and integration functions. A strength of Mathematica is that a common set of principles underlies the design of the functions. These common principles will be presented and then demonstrated in a quick overview of the numerical functionality.
