The basic idea of RIA (Rich Internet Application), the buzzword invented by Macromedia, is to bring the advantages and strengths of the desktop applications to web applications. Thus RIA web applications would be: 1. easier to develop using a standardized user interface 2. easier to maintain as it requires no installation, updates or patches 3. platform independent 4. more reponsive with no page reloading needed - rich user experience
