I will begin by giving an overview of DSolve from the perspective of a typical user. Next, there will be a description of factorization methods for higher-order ordinary differential equations in Mathematica 5.2. Finally, I will give examples of solitary wave solutions for nonlinear partial differential equations using DSolve. This functionality is expected to be available in an upcoming release of Mathematica.
