Description

The presentation describes a package to emulate computer arithmetic and, as an illustration of one application, applies the package, using Mathematica to compute the truth, to two simple nonanalytic/experimental rounding-error-analysis examples. The first is a classical demonstration of finite word length effects: accumulation of rounding error from incrementing within a loop. The second compares the performance of five variations of the quadratic formula for rounding and chopping.
