The goal of this tutorial is to gain a basic understanding of the Mathematica programming language. We will examine how Mathematica evaluates input, how to define functions to work with many kinds of expressions, and how to describe and manipulate data. We will also examine high-level styles of Mathematica programming, how to collect groups of functions into packages, and some miscellaneous topics, such as how to format output and generate warning messages.
