Scientific computing has changed dramatically in the last 30 years. Computations that were undreamed of or impossible in the 1960s are now so common as to be trivial. Advances in hardware and software now make the computer and software like Mathematica indispensable in everyday scientific research. In this presentation, I will discuss the history of computing developments since 1965 with a focus on how Mathematica was introduced and revolutionized many areas of research.
