From the Ruliad to Awareness: A Computational Account of Consciousness In the Wolfram Physics Project, the ruliad—the entangled limit of all possible computations—serves as the substrate from which both physical law and subjective experience emerge. Within this framework, consciousness is modeled not as an independent phenomenon but as a consequence of the computationally bounded nature of observers. Such observers maintain persistence of identity while coarse-graining their trajectories through rulial and branchial space, generating a coherent thread of experience from the underlying combinatorial structure. This essay integrates the mechanics of space, time and quantum phenomena with the informational constraints that define an observer's perspective. And by treating consciousness as an inevitable corollary of these constraints, Wolfram links its study directly to foundational physics—making awareness another dimension of the same computational fabric that governs the universe.
