Provides an introduction to MathLink, along with a handy reference for MathLink functions. MathLink is a communication protocol for Mathematica that provides a general mechanism for exchanging expressions between Mathematica and other programs. MathLink can be used to call an external program and send data and commands to it from inside Mathematica, or to call Mathematica from an external program. It can also be used to connect Mathematica to a front end program that handles the user interface, or to exchange expressions between two concurrent Mathematica sessions. [This is a 1993 publication.
