Description
A newfiniteelementmodelbasedonthecoupleddisplacementfieldandthetaperingfunctionsofthe beam isformulatedfortransversevibrationsofrotatingTimoshenkobeamsofequalstrength.Inthe coupleddisplacementfield,thepolynomialcoefficientsoftransversedisplacementandcross-sectional rotation arecoupledthroughconsiderationofthedifferentialequationsofequilibrium.Thetapering functionsofbreadthanddepthofthebeamareobtainedfromtheprincipleofequalstrengthinthe longitudinaldirectionofthebeam.Afterfindingthedisplacementfunctionsusingthetapering functions,thestiffnessandmassmatricesareexpressedbyusingthestrainandkineticenergy equations.Asemi-symboliccomputerprograminMathematicaisdevelopedandsubsequentlyusedto evaluatethenewmodel.Theresultsoftheillustrativeexampleregardingtheproblemindicatedinthe title ofthispaperareobtainedandcomparedwiththeresultsfoundfromthemodelscreatedin ABAQUS.Verygoodagreementisfoundbetweentheresultsofnewmodelandtheotherresults.
