Description

We describe an on-going experiment using Mathematica to teach a conventional differential equations course in a predominantly minority undergraduate institution. A series of Mathematica notebooks is used to emphasize algebraic skills, graphical interpretation, the relationship between theory and algorithms, and problem solving. Implementation and pedagogical issues affecting the design of the notebooks are discussed in terms of these objectives.
