The title is a double-entendre: the patterns you see are "automatic" in at least two ways, mirroring two remarkable features of the works of the artist M.C. Escher which inspired them: the familiar Knights and Circle Limit I-IV (see, for example, The Graphic Work of M.C. Escher, Gramercy, New York, 1984).
