The boundary value problems of thick-walled sphere and cylinder, made from an isotropic strain-hardening viscoplastic material, and subjected to external pressure are analyzed. Closed-form solutions are presented for some particular values of the material constants. Apart from the intrinsic utility of these solutions in micromechanical modeling of hot isostatic pressing of porous metals, these solutions are also useful for testing the accuracy of numerical computational schemes which employ the constitutive equations for the solution of a much larger class of boundary value problems.
