If you are creating Mathematica-based applications under a non-Notebook version of Mathematica, you will probably want to convert your packages into Notebooks. At this writing, only the versions of Mathematica for the NeXT and Macintosh computers support Notebooks, but a Notebook front end that runs on Unix workstations under the X Windows Systems is under development. Eventually all versions of Mathematica will use Notebooks, but for now, it is often the case that Mathematica code is developed under a non-Notebook version and later ported to a version that does support Notebooks.
