Description

Descartes is a series of packages to do geometry with Mathematica. The first volume is: 2D Euclidean Geometry. The program contains a toolkit of basic geometrical objects: POINT, STRAIGHT, CIRCLE, ARC, CONIC, LINE, POLYGON, VECTOR, and more than hundred functions to produce exact drawings. Note that using a symbolic engine to do drawing, all the theorems of geometry are automatically applied and an assembly of drawings is as rigorous as a single drawing. Results come in both graphical and analytical form. Properties such as: alignment, concentricity, contact, parallelism, etc., can be tested exactly. Last, objects may depend on parameters and become geometrical functions ideal to generate families of objects, this is, the realm of dynamical geometry. The package is designed to be used as an element of basic courseware on geometry and for numerous applications ranging from scientific publishing to graphics art or CAD/CAM.
