Methanol is used as a solvent in the sweetening of natural gas. Loss of methanol by dissolution in the gas phase can become an important economic consideration. Here, we compute the vapour mole fraction of methanol in natural gas at P=10 bars and for different temperatures. This problem was presented in the excellent book by Prausnitz et al., Molecular Thermodynamics of Fluid-Phase Equilibria, 3rd edition, Prentice Hall, 1999. Good qualitative agreement is found with results given by Prausnitz et al. The minor quantitative discrepancy may be due to the values of the binary interaction parameters, which were taken from HYSYS 3.2.
