Users can look forward to major new features in several areas: string maniipulation and support of foreign character sets; three-dimensional graphics and composite graphics; sound; differential equations and integration (symbolic and numerical); linear algebra and linear programming; direct interaction with external programs; error detection and debugging; and the Notebook front end. Many other changes were made internally, for efficiency; in theory, they should not affect the program's usage. In addition, numerous smaller improvements were made, and known bugs from the previous versions were fixed.
