Description

In this demonstration, we present VolView Mathematica, an add-on package currently under development by Kitware for visualizing three-dimensional Mathematica data. Using a simple function evaluation, a scientist can interactively explore a 3D scalar field to gain a better understanding of the underlying equation. (See Figure 1.) When processing externally acquired image stacks using Mathematica, a researcher can visualize the stack in 3D, both before and after processing, in order to facilitate image processing algorithm development and therefore improve results. (See Figure 2.) By taking advantage of recent advances in GPU programming, VolView Mathematica is able to provide high-resolution interactive rendering performance. The user may rotate, pan, and zoom to achieve the desired view. In addition, the user can adjust the transfer functions mapping scalar value to color and opacity and can also alter the lighting parameters.
