Description

This paper describes a hybrid, analytical/numerical, one-dimensional fog and stratus prediction model being developed for the US Air Force. The model is designed to run on a personal computer and is presently written in the Mathematica code. The paper shows examples of model outputs, describes an analysis of model forecasts of the onset of air mass fog, and outlines future research plans. The model predicts the diurnal variation of temperature and dew point in the boundary layer from calculations of heat and moisture budgets at four levels above a specified point.
