Mathematical Modeling

The Lagrangian methodology for deriving dynamic equations of a mechanical system consists of introducing so-called generalized coordinates that describe (angular) positions and (angular) velocities of subsystems of the true system. Using these coordinates expressions for the kinetic and potential energy of each subsystem can be formed. Once this is done, the dynamic equations describing the whole system can be derived automatically.
