The strength of Maths & Fun (M&F) lies in three items.
- Making use of the new media, like the internet, in the new version
of Mathematica
or using video clips.
- The pedagogical concept of the notebooks. That is the most crucial
point. How to teach
mathematics using a CAS is a nontrivial problem. We think we have
found a very useful
approach. In our pedagogical concept the most important thing is the
learning process.
Teamwork, interactivity, and the given learning environment, using
elements of
constructivism as well, are the basics of our mathematics in context.
So, in our opinion,
Maths & Fun is mainly a very well tested concept for
"learning mathematics by
doing" experiments as well as for having math discussions with
the team partner and
getting strategies for solving given problems in a different context.
Thus, our learning
system is a learning and studying concept that works well. In M&F
notebooks you will
find
material covering the basic course needs. You will also find more
advanced notebooks
if you and your class are interested in further details or new
applications. M&F is
especially suited for projects in mathematics. This is also one of the
goals of the
U.S. curriculum.
- The open software concept. Clearly teachers are always invited to
add their own
well-tested ideas or examples. They can also adapt the notebook to fit
their needs. Maths
& Fun, and this is the big advantage, is an open learning concept.
